This article analyses the ascetic and mystical profile of Saint Calinic of Cernica, the bishop of the Diocese of Râmnic, situating him within the tradition of Paisian Neo-Hesychasm and Romanian Philocalic spirituality. Through the writings of Father Dumitru Stăniloae, Metropolitan Antonie Plămădeală and Metropolitan Nestor Vornicescu, the article highlights the original synthesis achieved by the saint between prayer, strict asceticism, charity and charitable building projects in 19th-century Oltenia.
