Saint Antim of Ivire and the Diocese of Râmnic at the height of ancient Romanian culture and during the modern national revival
Dan Zamfirescu The article traces the life of Antim Ivireanul from his release from slavery by Patriarch Dositei Notara, through his time as abbot at Cetățuia Iașilor and his apprenticeship in printing alongside Bishop Mitrofan, right up to his episcopate in Râmnic (1705–1708), where, through the printing of the 1706 Evhologhion — which contained the first complete Romanian-language Liturgy — he established the Romanian language as the irreversible foundation of the Orthodox church service.
