An issue centred on the mystery of prayer — man’s encounter and union with God —, introduced by His Eminence Varsanufie and featuring a study by Professor Kostadin Nushev of Sofia on the significance of the work of Saint Sophronius of Vratsa and the centrality of the Kiriakodromion (Râmnicu-Vâlcea, 1806) in the development of Orthodox moral theology, a reflection by Professor Dimitrie Țelenghidis of Thessaloniki (‘Let us stand firm, let us stand in fear’), a study by Father Ștefan Zară on the external aspects of prayer in Origen and a plea by Dragoș-Cătălin Jumugă for a Eucharistic gnoseology in Saint Cyril of Alexandria — and, in the pages dedicated to the history of Râmnicu Vâlcea, Academician Răzvan Theodorescu with A Wallachian Century between Martyrdom and Betrayal: the Deposition and Beheading of Saint Constantin Brâncoveanu, the first part of the study on Bishop Antim Petrescu, Bishop Filaret’s stone fountain, and Dan Ciachir with ‘Through Asia Minor’, Homily XXIII of Saint Gregory the Great, a spiritual narrative by Archimandrite Maximos Constas and an interview with Archimandrite Veniamin Micle.
