The stone fountain commissioned by Bishop Filaret of Râmnic on 1 September 1784, on the banks of the River Olt, near the ford at Goranu, is examined from a historical, artistic and documentary perspective, with reference to the inscription in verse, the hierarch’s scholarly work and the vicissitudes of the monument, which was finally restored by His Eminence Varsanufie in 2015.

The reign of Constantin Brâncoveanu (1688–1714) is analysed as an era of cultural synthesis in Wallachia, during which artistic patronage, residential and religious architecture, printed works and mural painting shaped an original pan-Romanian style. By relating the prince’s actions to the principles of Medicean culture and the European Baroque context, the article demonstrates that Brâncoveanu represented a watershed in the Romanians’ transition from the Middle Ages to modernity.

The study analyses Metropolitan Antim Ivireanul’s direct involvement in shaping the architectural and artistic profile of the Monastery of All Saints in Bucharest, arguing, on the basis of the miniature of the church featured in the 1713 Foundation Charter and the 1715 Royal Decree, that the hierarch personally contributed to the plans, sculptures and ornamentation of his foundation.
