The pandemic is interpreted as an event of apocalyptic significance and as a pedagogical punishment permitted by God, calling upon the clergy and the people to sincere repentance. By drawing an analogy with the people of Nineveh and the words of Saint John Chrysostom, the text shows that profound repentance, accompanied by charity and prayer, can overcome any trial sent by God.

A homiletic sermon delivered on the feast of All Saints; the text develops the thesis that martyrdom is not limited to the shedding of blood, but encompasses any life lived in asceticism, chastity and the patience of the cross. Drawing on the Epistle to the Hebrews (chapters XI–XII) and the writings of Saint Paul, the author calls upon the faithful to bear witness to Christ through the deeds of their lives, resisting the temptations of the devil, so as to attain eternal rewards.
