The Holy Eucharist is examined as the central Sacrament of the Church, in its ecclesial, cosmological and eschatological dimensions, with reference to the theology of Saint Maximus the Confessor in his Mystagogy, to Father Alexander Schmemann and to His Eminence Irineu Popa. The article explores the connection between the liturgical assembly, the Eucharistic consecration and the journey of the Church—as a ship—towards the Kingdom of God.

Goodness is examined as an essential attribute of God and a fundamental vocation of humankind, from the perspective of Holy Scripture and the Holy Fathers: Clement of Alexandria, Dionysius the Areopagite, Gregory of Nyssa, Maximus the Confessor and John Cassian. Man’s participation in divine goodness, made possible through the Incarnation of the Saviour and the grace of the Holy Spirit, constitutes the path to spiritual improvement and likeness to God.
