The article traces the history of the Orthodox Church’s organisation in the Romanian territories, from the defence of Academician Răzvan Theodorescu’s thesis on the pre-schismatic Latin character of Romanian Christianity to the voivodal foundations established by Basarab I and Nicolae Alexandru, demonstrating through inscriptions, synodal documents, monastic testimonies and architectural monuments that Orthodoxy has been an integral part of the Romanian people’s identity since the Apostolic Age.
