Vartolomeu Stănescu – a revered hierarch and patriotic senator (I)
Rev. Dr. Laurențiu Rădoi Between 1920 and 1940, Bishop Vartolomeu Stănescu of Râmnic was involved in a wide range of cultural, publishing and educational activities: he founded the Cozia Printing House, edited the ‘Library of the Church Fathers and Writers’ series, supported the magazine Renașterea and reorganised the Saint Nicholas Theological Seminary in Râmnicu-Vâlcea, the school for cantors at Cozia and the seminary in Craiova, whilst also contributing substantial personal donations to the diocese’s assets.
