Studia Humanitatis No. I (XIX) / 2025 Ilie Lăcătușu, a saint in the communist prisons Florin Epure
Priest Ilie Lăcătușu (1909–1983), originally from Vâlcea County, served as an Orthodox missionary in Transnistria and Odessa during the Second World War, and subsequently endured imprisonment in the forced-labour camps at Galeșu, Peninsula and Periprava during the Communist era. On 4 February 2025, he was officially canonised by the Romanian Patriarchate; his feast day is 22 July, and his incorrupt relics are housed at Giulești Cemetery in Bucharest.
