The article presents the three dialogues between Saint Gregory Palamas and Muslims during his captivity in 1354, with a focus on his spontaneous encounter with Tasimanis on the occasion of a Muslim funeral in Nicaea, as described in the letter To the Church Itself. The patristic model of interreligious dialogue, founded on knowledge of one’s own tradition and respect for one’s interlocutor, is proposed as an Orthodox theological response to the challenges of the contemporary multicultural world.
