On the Life of the Soul: Elements of Psychoanalysis and Spirituality in the Homilies of Saint Macarius the Egyptian
PhD candidate Dragoș-Cătălin Jumugă This article explores the relationships between Freudian and Jungian psychoanalysis and Orthodox Christian spirituality, using the Spiritual Homilies of Saint Macarius the Egyptian as a bridge between them. Concepts such as the unconscious, the Oedipus complex, free will and repentance are brought into dialogue, demonstrating that the healing of the soul from sin requires a synergy between human will and divine grace.
