Between 1920 and 1940, Bishop Vartolomeu Stănescu of Râmnic was involved in a wide range of cultural, publishing and educational activities: he founded the Cozia Printing House, edited the ‘Library of the Church Fathers and Writers’ series, supported the magazine Renașterea and reorganised the Saint Nicholas Theological Seminary in Râmnicu-Vâlcea, the school for cantors at Cozia and the seminary in Craiova, whilst also contributing substantial personal donations to the diocese’s assets.

The Orthodox Theology and Spirituality Journal of the Archdiocese of Râmnic presents the programme and rationale behind the new diocesan publication, launched following the discontinuation of the title Renașterea. The journal aims to bear witness to the true faith in a secularised society, asserting that authentic cultural expression is inseparable from the profession of Christ as the one Truth.
